A New Constellation

Revontulia 27-09-2010Perhaps no one else would make these connections, but they are compelling to me as I’ve been thinking about resurrection power.

Seth Godin, “To overcome an irrational fear…

replace it with a habit… Every day, drip, drip, drip, a habit.

Not exactly life-giving, but it’s a start. Like Rodney Lover’s announcement, “Flossing My Way to Greatness“:

At a business meeting a couple months ago, laughter engulfed the room after I excitedly announced my new teeth flossing regime.

Change may be driven by habit, but it can connect to something greater, the power of the resurrection. I came across this passage in N.T. Wright’s Surprised by Hope:

If Calvary means putting to death things in your life that need killing off if you are to flourish as a Christian and as a truly human being, then Easter should mean planting, watering, and training up things in your life (personal and corporate) that out to be blossoming, filling the garden with color and perfume, and in due course bearing fruit. The forty days of the Easter season, until the ascension, ought to be a time to balance out Lent by taking something up, some new task or venture, something wholesome and fruitful and outgoing and self-giving.

Paul made this kind of connection in Colossians 3:

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above… Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. (Colossians 3:1,9–10, ESV)
